Foreign Military Sales

Due to its massive standing within the global community, America has helped many other countries with their military equipment and defense systems for many years. The United States Department of Defense has a specific program in place for dealing with just this very situation.

The Foreign Military Sales – or FMS – program gives the Department of Defense the right to sell off U.S. military arms, defensive equipment and also provide military training strategies to foreign governments. The reasons for this are obvious – many countries are not as financially developed as the United States and require some aid in getting their own military and defense in the right operations. 

The foreign countries who look to receive aid from the Department of Defense deal with an entity known as the Defense Security Co-operation Agency – or DSCA. This allows for an intermediary to provide a full detail of the transactions that take place. This means that a professional body takes care of the procurement and delivery of all the products that are bought through the FMS program. As well as this, the DSCA provide on-going training support and will help initialize the implementation of these new defense systems and training in the country in question. 

This approach requires the country in question to be permitted to participate, and also requires a deposit into the US Trust Fund or an appropriate credit agent to provide funding for these services.
